A Day in the Life of a Heat Engineering Technician: Keeping Chicagoland Cool

Rise and Shine: The Day Begins

As the sun peeks over the horizon, I’m already up and preparing for another busy day at Heat Engineering. My name’s Mike, and I’ve been an HVAC technician here for five years. Today’s schedule is packed with various tasks across the western suburbs of Chicago.

7:00 AM: Morning Briefing

I arrive at our Downers Grove headquarters for our daily team meeting. We discuss the day’s assignments and any special considerations for each job. Today, I’m headed to Countryside for an air conditioning installation, followed by AC service calls in Westmont and Brookfield.

8:30 AM: AC Installation in Countryside

My first stop is a residential property in Countryside, IL. The homeowners have decided to upgrade their old system to a more energy-efficient model. I begin by:

  • Removing the old unit
  • Preparing the area for the new installation
  • Installing the new AC system
  • Testing and calibrating the equipment

By noon, the new system is up and running, and the homeowners are thrilled with their cooler, more comfortable home.

1:30 PM: AC Service in Westmont

After a quick lunch break, I head to Westmont for a routine AC service call. The homeowner has reported reduced cooling efficiency. I perform a thorough inspection, clean the coils, and replace the air filter. A simple fix, but it makes a world of difference in the system’s performance.

3:00 PM: Emergency AC Repair in Brookfield

My next stop is an urgent call in Brookfield. A family’s air conditioner has completely stopped working on one of the hottest days of the year. I diagnose the issue as a faulty compressor and get to work replacing it. Within a couple of hours, cool air is flowing again, and the grateful family can enjoy their comfortable home.

6:00 PM: Wrapping Up the Day

As the sun begins to set, I head back to our Downers Grove office to complete my paperwork and prepare for tomorrow. Tomorrow’s schedule includes HVAC installations in Oak Brook and Hinsdale, but for now, it’s time to head home and relax.

Working at Heat Engineering is more than just a job – it’s about helping people stay comfortable in their homes and businesses. Whether it’s installing a new system or providing emergency repairs, every day brings new challenges and opportunities to make a difference in our community.
